Man behind the Mortgage.

This being my first ever Blog post, I had to reflect on what I wanted to get across and hope it would be something of genuine interest. I am a Mortgage man through and through. It’s in my blood at this point.  It is on my mind almost every moment of every day. To most we are just salespeople , but as in any profession, some of strive to be the best, which makes us more than just a salesperson.

As mortgage professional we have a moral obligation to provide what is best for our clients and also provide top notch service. We understand that many of you coming to us are nervous and hesitant. Our professional reputation has been hurt over the last few years, largely due to the mortgage crisis.  With that said, a true mortgage professional will embrace this, acknowledge this and set the bar high for themselves to surpass your all professional and ethical standards and expectations. Our stated professional goal is that we truly want nothing more than to improve your life.

So what is my point you ask? You as a consumer have one very important decision to make over interest rate and the cheapest mortgage. Who do you genuinely trust is going provide you the best service? I cannot stress this enough. The best rate and cheapest loan, is often not the best deal.  Everyone can offer a cheap rate, but can they close your loan, do they know what is the best loan for you, do you feel like they are going to communicate with you?  If you are having to reach out to your Mortgage Lender instead of them reaching out to you, is that who you want to do business with? Most of the horror stories you have heard about Mortgage Lending in the last couple years is due to these reasons alone. One lender may offer you a rate that is .125% lower than a competitor or $500 cheaper.  What happens when you do not close on time, they have to extend or re-lock your rate and it cost $1200 to do this? Who loses here?  Present your lender with the tough questions they deserve to be asked. Make sure they know what they are doing.  Ask for a reference! Its okay, we are good at what we do, we love to give out past client references. We thrive on it as a matter of fact.  We have nothing to hide.

To summarize my post.  As a consumer, you need to determine what is really meant by “lowest” and “cheapest”. Talk to your mortgage professional about what you really want. You will find the experience to be very informative and you will not regret it. There is so much more to a mortgage than just costs.  There is an expert ready to serve you and help you buy or refinance your home in the best way possible for your unique situation.  The only bad question is the one not asked.  The only bad idea is the one not discussed.
